We finally have the sign up sheet on the bulletin board for the East vs. West Tennis Tournament, so any of you who would like to play can now sign up. Be sure to put your name on the correct sheet depending on if you live East or West of Gartrell Road. The tournament is Saturday, July 12th and is free. Tennis will be played most of the day and a draw sheet will be made up a few days ahead of time, so you will know approximately what time your match will start. Everyone who signs up will play at least one match. We will have Mens Doubles, Womens Doubles and a "Mixed Doubles Super Tie Breaker" at the end of the tournament.
If you want to attend the Awards Banquet, the cost is $15.00 and you can pay at the Welcome Desk. You should pay with a check, because they will only be collecting the money for us, and will turn over the checks to us periodically. Make your checks out to "HEB Tennis Club". The banquet will start at 6:00 p.m. and will be held either in the Humboldt Room or the Lower Lobby of the Club House, depending on how many people we have.
Your spouse is welcome to come watch us play and root us on, and they are definitely welcome to attend the Awards Banquet.
Please sign up for the Tournament and the Banquet as soon as possible, so we can get a count as to how many we will have. Thanks,
Ron & Gail Hedy
Social Committee
P.S. The menu for the Awards Banquet is: Mixed Green Salad, Chicken & Beef Fajitas, Black Beans, Spanish Rice, Desserts, Iced Tea, Lemonade & Coffee. The $15.00 cost is inclusive of the above menu, tax and tip. We will also have a cash bar available.
Chuck Strauss has offered to have a friend print shirts for us. The cost would be approximately $15 or less ( Chuck needs to get a quote after we have an approximate number of shirts wanted).
The East side has chosen a light blue and the West an emerald green. The logo will be small(nothing gawdy) and on the left side of a polo shirt. Of course the purchase of the shirt is optional, but could be a way to let the community know that we are a vital and active part of HEB. If you are interested, we need the following information:
Name--East or West--Size (men's small--4X) (women's XS--3X)
Please respond to Jan Rankin by Monday, June 30 before noon.

Breakfast at Wimbledon (Eagle's Nest style)
The HEB Tennis Club's Social Committee is planning "Breakfast at Wimbledon" at the Eagles Nest Restaurant. This will be a great event!
It will be next Saturday, July 5th and we will be watching the Women's Finals and the Men's Semi Final Matches. The restaurant has agreed to open early for the event. Since the Women's Finals start at 7:00 a.m., the restaurant will open at 6:50 a.m. They will set up an authentic "English Breakfast" buffet in the Shivano Room. We will have tables reserved for us in front of their big screen TV in the restaurant.
They are giving us a great price for the buffet! The cost is $8.75 and includes:
Strawberries & Cream
Eggs
Canadian Bacon
Grilled Tomatoes
Whole Sauteed Mushrooms
Fruit
Muffins & Pastries
Bagles & Cream Cheese
Toast
Yogurt
Coffee/Tea/Juice
(1) Mamosa (not sure how to spell that)
We do need a count of how many people we will have, so please respond to us and let us know if you plan to attend. We would like to give an approximate number to Paul, the Food & Beverage Manager, by this Monday, June 30th.
The regular men's Saturday tennis is at 9:00 a.m., so you guys will have time to eat breakfast and watch the Women's Finals, and still be able to play tennis at 9:00.
We're hoping you can join us for the fun, so let us know ASAP.
Thanks,
Ron & Gail Hedy

Wednesday Evening Tennis at 7 PM
Four men and four women enjoyed a great evening of tennis for the second week running. This new evening program began on June 4th by Marlene (front center) and Hugh (kneeling). Their business schedules did not allow them to participate in the early morning tennis sessions at HEB, so they organized a 7:00 - 9:00 PM Wednesday drop in tennis group. Come with or without a partner. There will be separate courts for women's and men's play. For more information contact either Marlene or Huge for details through their email mkmurray7@aol.com.

Saturday and Tuesday tennis
Saturday tennis is currently starting at 8 AM as of 6/28/2008. The first hour will be casual doubles play with the players picking their own partners and opponents. At 9 AM, Al Burdi will organize the group for another hour of tennis. Come see what Al has up his sleeve next week. The program has been very popular with all 4 courts in use for the past month.
Tuesday tennis is also drop in doubles tennis and is organized by the men that show up that morning.

New Information Boards
Watch the gazebo by court 2!! An information board is being installed. It will contain information about the HEB Tennis Club, sign up sheets for events, sign up sheets for court reservations, and probably many more items of interest as time goes on.
The bulletin board in the hallway between the Eagle's Nest restaurant and the golf pro shop will still be used for additional information.

Court Repair and Pole Pads
The tennis courts have once again been patched to remove the bubbling and cracking around the outside of the courts.
The light poles have been padded.
Tennis should be much safer now.

June 1st Summer Kickoff Mixer
We had a great turn out for the Summer Kickoff Mixer & Pot Luck! We had 40 tennis players and about 65 people at our Pot Luck supper. It was a lot of fun and we had some new players attend. This event is always well attended and is a good way for everyone in our community to get together. The afternoon was perfect and we played some great tennis. Everyone brought a dish for the Pot Luck supper afterwards, and a good time was had by all.
